When Robin started as a full-time Youth Services Librarian at Bull Run Regional Library this past December, she knew she wanted to bring the Mutt-i-grees message to her new community in Manassas, VA. After all, it had been a big hit when she started the Mutt-i-grees program at Beatley Central Library in Alexandria, VA last fall.
At Beatley Library, Robin held a kickoff program for Mutt-i-grees during the library’s fall festival. Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) had volunteers and dogs on hand and families participated in a paint party where they could make their own dog-inspired creation. For another program, children and their families made dog toys for a shelter dog and a toy for their dog, too. “It was educational and entertaining,” Robin said. “I overheard some great conversations between children and parents about shelter animals.”
Robin is looking forward to the Bull Run Regional Library Mutt-i-grees kickoff event, which will be held during the Prince William County Public Schools’ spring break. She has cultivated a wonderful relationship with the staff and volunteers at the Prince William County Animal Shelter and is excited about the upcoming Mutt-i-grees programs she has planned. “At Beatley Central Library we had a great time with this activity,” Robin says. “The kickoff event is a fun way to get the word out about this great program.”
Future programs at Bull Run will feature Animal Body Language and a Dog Bingo, where children and families will have fun learning about different dog breeds. Robin is also excited to try out the suggested programming ideas in the Mutt-i-grees in the Library binder. “My supervisor Nancy Schleh is very supportive,” Robin goes on to say. “I look forward to making a difference with the Mutt-i-grees program in Manassas.”
