This summer the Mutt-i-grees team made multiple visits to Camp A.N.C.H.O.R. in Lido Beach, NY. Camp A.N.C.H.O.R is a comprehensive, year-round program that serves thousands of children and adults with special needs who live in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County Long Island. During these visits, the kids were able to interact with shelter puppies from North Shore Animal League America, helping to socialize them. During this time, the children become trusted care takers as they pet, played with, and looked after the puppies.
They had many questions about the adoption process as some of the kids wanted to adopt dogs of their own. Some of the kids talked about their own pets and how wonderful having them around made them feel. The staff was incredibly attentive and helpful during the visits and assured us that we truly made the kids’ days every time we visited with the rescue pups. We are sure our relationship will continue and we cannot wait for our next visit to Camp A.N.C.H.O.R.
