Teacher of the Month: Tammy Cole
Teachers implementing the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum are featured in this column. This month’s feature is Tammy Cole from the School of the 21st Century in Paragould, AR.
Tammy Cole recently completed her second year as a Kindergarten teacher at the School of the 21st Century in Paragould, AR. Tammy is a veteran Mutt-i-gree teacher, having been among the first to pilot the PreK-3 lessons! Her Mutt-i-gree-themed decorations greet young students each day and her implementation of the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum is well-known throughout the community. Tammy’s class regularly welcomes Henry Wrinkles, who was adopted from a local animal shelter (to see Henry Wrinkles and Tammy’s class, click here). Tammy’s class – and Henry Wrinkles – were featured in a CBS news segment and numerous articles, and most recently made headlines when news of the Mutt-i-grees Quilt came out. The Quilt is the creation of Tammy’s Kindergarten students (who painted fabric squares) and the ladies guild at a nearby church (the ladies provided sewing expertise). The quilt was raffled, with proceeds donated to the local animal shelter. Tammy, who previously taught kindergarten at Woodrow Wilson school for 25 years and has a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Arkansas State University, is an all-round exceptional teacher who has been nominated for a teacher of the year award. She and her husband, Johnny have one daughter, Katie, a dog, and two cats.
