The Mutt-i-grees® Virtual Internship
We are excited to introduce The Mutt-i-grees® Virtual Internship, an online video series demonstrating the connections between social-emotional learning, humane education, and the work of animal shelters and rescue groups.
North Shore Animal League America (Animal League America) has an established internship program that provides opportunities for schools and libraries to visit the headquarters in Port Washington, NY. We have received many requests for schools and libraries to participate in this internship program. The purpose of this virtual internship is to provide similar experiences to students and educators who are unable to attend in person.
Although it was filmed at Animal League America, The Mutt-i-grees® Virtual Internship represents the goals of shelters across the country. These videos can be used as online field trips if traveling to your local animal shelter is not possible.
In eight dynamic segments, the videos cover a broad range of sheltering topics; including:
- Veterinarian Exam: Rescue Dogs
- Veterinarian Exam: Adopted Dogs
- Foster Care
- Pet Behavior
- Events, PR & Web Marketing
Each video segment includes opportunities for reflection and concludes with questions for group discussion. These discussions encourage viewers to develop their self-esteem and capacity for empathy. The Mutt-i-grees® Virtual Internship can be used by students who want to research animal shelter practices or are interested in a career in animal welfare. We created these video segments to complement the service learning projects recommended in the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum.
